Quick No-Bake Cookies

Great Hands-On Recipe for Kids

This quick no-bake cookie recipe is perfect for kids. It’s easy, quick, and simple. And most importantly – they are delicious!

Growing up this was my favorite type of cookie to make. In our house, the recipe was known as Preacher Cookies. The story is that these cookies are so effortless they can be whipped up quickly if the preacher stopped by unannounced. We never used the recipe for that reason, but did call them by that name.

This a perfect dessert with just a few basic ingredients, and a quick turn-around time, since there is no baking. Kids can help without losing interest halfway through the recipe.

First, add a stick of butter in a large saucepan. After it has melted, stir in your milk, cocoa and sugar.

Melt these ingredients together and bring them to a boil. Stir for 1 minute while boiling (I turn the heat down so that it is more of a simmer). This is a great time to let the kids set the timer and be responsible for stirring nonstop. After the 1 minute of boiling, add in the vanilla and peanut butter (you could use crunchy peanut butter too). The peanut butter can be tricky to measure out so it can be a lesson on accuracy and measurement (the kids won’t even realize they are doing math). Add the in oats and stir, stir, stir. It is a great opportunity for little hands to use those fine motor skills because the mixture will be thick and take some effort. The goal is to stir until the oats are all covered and no longer white and dry. This gives a visual to help your young chef know when their task is complete.

On a sprayed cookie sheet or some parchment paper, drop the cookies using a large spoon. The cookies will need to cool and should harden up. That it’s – Enjoy your Quick No-Bake Cookies!

Simple Ingredient List

  • 1 stick of butter
  • 1/2 cup of milk
  • 1/4 cup of cocoa
  • 2 cups of sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 3/4 cup peanut butter
  • 3 1/2 cup quick-oats

Easy Directions

Melt 1 stick of butter in a large pan then add milk, cocoa, and sugar. After the ingredients are combined bring to a boil. Turn heat down to a bubbling simmer for 1 minute, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and add in the vanilla and peanut butter, stirring until smooth and combined. Add in the oats and stir fully. Drop by the spoonfuls onto a greased cookie sheet or parchment paper. Before enjoying your Quick No-Bake Cookies let them cool for at least 10 minutes. Have fun!
